| Come and try out the giant catapults ! |
|
Every day from April 1st to September 30th Three full-scale replicas of huge siege warfare machines, based on 13th century designs, will give visitors of all ages some idea of medieval military tactics. At that time, the Château des Baux was supposed to be impregnable, but it was scarcely able to withstand the attacks from these formidable machines. The trebuchet, the largest medieval siege warfare machine, could hurl 100 kg rock projectiles at walls 200 yards away. Battering rams were used to break down the heavy gates of besieged fortresses. Swung back and forth, the long steel-tipped head was protected against bombardment from above by a stout roof structure.
